The Change of the Qiblah Direction
Before this event, when the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace be upon him) was in Makkah, he would pray facing Jerusalem with the Ka'bah positioned in front of him. However, after his migration to Madinah, he continued to pray towards Jerusalem for about a year, although he deeply desired to turn towards the Ka'bah. This longing was answered when Allah revealed the following verse:

“We have certainly seen the turning of your face, [O Muhammad], toward the heaven, and We will surely turn you to a qiblah with which you will be pleased. So, turn your face [i.e., yourself] toward Al-Masjid Al-Haram.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:144)

At that very moment, the Prophet (blessings and peace be upon him), who was leading the congregation in the Bani Salamah neighborhood of Madinah, turned from facing Jerusalem to facing the Ka'bah, right in the middle of the prayer. Without hesitation or interruption, he moved, and the congregation followed, completing their prayer in the new direction. This miraculous event is why the mosque is known as Al-Qiblatain, meaning "the Mosque of Two Qiblahs."
